Game date: July 17th, 2010 Time: 1:30 PM Location: Port Allegany (The Swamp) Opponent: Portville Panthers (NY) July 17th, 2010 will mark the inaugural season of Port Allegany Alumni Football. Inspired by the Portville Panther Alumni team of Portville, NY, the Gators have decided to challenge the mighty Panthers to a full-pads contest. This will mark the 6th game for Portville, as they have chalked up a record of 3-2 thus far. They lost their first two contests against mighty Salamanca, but have since rebounded to resoundly beat their arch rival Allegany-Limestone in consecutive games. They also managed to outlast Olean in the 2008 gridiron contest. The Gators will have their hands full for sure, but feel that they have fielded a strong team consisting of a who's who of former all-stars and standouts from the past 25 years. Some of those include Dick Sherwood from the Class of '87, well-known as one of the best running backs the area has ever seen. Isaac Greeley will play linebacker for the Gators; Greeley was a 3-time district wrestling champion, and also went on to wrestle in college at Pitt-Johnstown. Mark McNeil will take some snaps at quarterback; McNeil played his college ball in the mid-90's at St. Francis (PA) University. Recent standout Willie Bova will alternate snaps with McNeil, and just completed a record-setting career at Thiel College; follow this link for proof: Statistics. The Gators will bring a well-balanced team into the game including players from as recent as the Class of 2005 back to the Class of 1986. In the near future, we will post the gameday roster once it becomes finalized. The Alumni Selection Committee is contacting former graduates, and completing the roster so that meetings and practices can be held. The coaches for the Gators include Bob Haskins, former head coach who amassed a 105-93-1 career coaching record. He coached the Gators to AML titles in 1986 and 1988, and narrowly was defeated for two more titles in 1987 and 2000. In addition to Haskins, former coaches Clair Hawver and Jim Turner will make their returns to the sidelines as well. We will update as often as possible, to keep everyone posted on the goings-on of the alumni game. Portville has been a big help in getting the game established, and we look forward to a highly competitive, well-attended football contest. |
